Here’s what you need to know about downsizing in Metro Detroit.
How can you downsize successfully? It can seem like a scary process, but the truth is that it’s easy if you know what you’re doing. That’s why today, we’re sharing the first part of our top 10 decluttering tips:
1. Consider offering some of your furniture to the new homeowner. One of our clients did this successfully, offering certain items for sale, and giving away others that didn’t fit in her new two-bedroom condo. This allowed her to make some extra cash while streamlining the moving process.
2. Declutter your home by getting rid of unnecessary items, which is an important part of downsizing. If you’d like some of our easy decluttering tips, just reach out to us for more details.
3. Ensure all appliances work and are in good functioning order, including the microwave, stove, and oven. This can be achieved by getting an appliance protection plan, repairing broken appliances, or replacing them with new ones.
Personal items can make potential buyers feel like intruders.
4. Depersonalize. Remove personal items from your home, as they make potential buyers feel like intruders. Other personal items such as jewelry and medication should also be removed from the home before selling.
5. Remove family photos. You want your buyer to picture themselves living in your home. While I’m sure your family is lovely, pictures of them will make it more difficult for buyers to visualize living in your space.
